A Woman Alone
Sukhmanch Winter Theatre Festival is soon going to organise a theatre play, namely A woman Alone, by Shilpi Marwaha in Delhi. The play showcases how, an abusive husband, perverted brother in law, an infant, the whole household chores, a young nagging boyfriend, peeking neighbours – amidst a woman alone trying to survive. Different roles of a woman, a daughter, a wife, a mother, a maid, a housekeeper, a laundry woman, a cook, a machine to produce children and an instrument to satisfy the lust of husband. These are, ironically, the expectations of the male chauvinist society from a woman. Her own identity, her own desire, her own love, her wish do not find any place in the crowd of constant demands from the so called superior sex. When she revolts; she refuses to satisfy the male ego, or the least she can do, being her own support system, wants to break the four walls and come out with her very own existence, she becomes the taboo.
